The 2010-2011 class of Leadership Santa Barbara County (LSBC) will continue the organization's "class project" tradition by showing its commitment to supporting a local non-profit organization. This year's class is partnering with Girls Inc. of Greater Santa Barbara. The "class project" was inspired by LSBC Board members who felt the program could contribute meaningfully and tangibly in the community.

At the Girls Inc. Goleta Valley Center, LSBC will create an outdoor learning space that will include an open air structure suitable to hold classes of 14 girls and a sustainable garden.  The garden will feature planter beds, fruit trees, and rows for growing produce that will be used in the cooking classes.   Additionally, LSBC is coordinating a mural project with the girls at the organization's Santa Barbara Center.

Throughout the year, the class will work hand in hand with Girls Inc. to complete this in-depth project. The scope of work has been determined by the LBSC class members and they plan to execute the effort before May's graduation event. The May topic day will unveil the project to the public.

Girls Incorporated of Greater Santa Barbara celebrates more than 50 years as an affiliate of a 146 year-old national non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring all girls to be strong, smart and bold! Through educational, research-based programs, activities and advocacy, Girls Incorporated offers girls ages 4-1/2 to 18 years with opportunities to experience success as they prepare to lead independent and fulfilling lives.
